Holidays in Marbella

Marbella

Marbella is one of the Mediterranean’s most representative tourist venues and a top favourite for holidaymakers.

Its impressive and luxurious infrastructure of yacht harbours, golf courses, fine dining, nightlife, great beaches, medical facilities and its closeness to Malaga airport, are key all reasons why so many holidaymakers choose Marbella as their favourite destination.

Holidays in Spain

Costa Tropical

Although not nearly so well known as the neighbouring Costa del Sol to the west. The Costa tropical of Granada province is particularly picturesque beachside, and easier to get away from the crowds.

Flight Schedules

Flight Delays at Airports

Quite often I find myself turning up a the airport to find that there are delays of some kind. The exact thing happened to me last week flying out of Newark airport. Had I have know about the expected delays in advance I probably would have stopped into a store and bought a range of magazines and some M&Ms.

Check out this tool and get a heads up before going to the airport either for your own flight or to pick up a family of the family.

I hope you find this tool useful

Currency and Exchange Rates

It’s always a good idea to start looking at exchage rates long before travelling to another country that uses another currency. Believe me, I feel foul to this not long ago while travelling to Italy. Had I been watching the daily exchange rates I’d have changed my vacation money into the local Euros € long before.

There are many other services out there to keep a close eye on and monitor global exchange rates so I would use this as a starting point.

Skiing in Chamonix

Why not try Skiing in Europe this winter

Chamonix, a town situated in the French Alps sits at the foot of Europe’s highest mountain, Mont Blanc.  The town also was host to the world’s first Winter Olympics in 1924. The town is extremely popular with skiers and snowboarders for the simple reason that the slopes are some of the best in the world.

Skiing in one of the best resorts in the world, it comes as no surprise that Chamonix can be rather expensive in comparison to other resorts in the French Alps. However now you can get great deals on ski vacations if you book online.

The transfer to the resort of Chamonix is only an hour away from Geneva Airport, Switzerland. Once there you can access a huge skiing area of over 700 square kilometres, with some slopes being over 3800 metres high. Snow is guaranteed throughout the year with the high altitudes, and there are slopes to suit skiers of all ages and ability. As well as some great downhill runs, Chamonix offers a huge off piste area for the more accomplished skier, and of course plenty of ski schools where you can hone your skills.

The town also has a huge variety of bars, shops, and cafes, so you will not be stuck for things to do once you have finished on the mountain. The nightlife in the area is particularly vibrant, catering for a wide variety of tastes.

Food and drink tends to be expensive, more so whilst on the mountain but be sure to try some of the local foods whilst there. There are many favourites from a Fondue, either meats which you dip into hot fat or bread dipped into hot cheese, tartiflette (potatoes and bacon smothered in cheese), and Croute savoyarde, which is a toasted piece of bread soaked in white wine and baked with melted cheese.

One thing to say about Chamonix is that the town manages to cater for everyone, be it Skiers, Snowboarders hikers or people just wanting to experience the beauty of mountains.

Flight Upgrades

Flight Upgrades

We would all prefer to fly Business Class but pay for Economy.

All economy class travellers dream of being upgraded, but it’s more than just a matter of luck. There are ways to improve your chances and fly in style. See our top tips here.

Prepare in advance:

If you sign up for the airlines loyalty card you will increase your chances of upgrade. Regular or frequent flyers are normally prioritised by the airline.

Dress for the occasion:

Airline staff will normally only upgrade those that will fit in with the business traveller so ditch the hoodie and trainers and opt for a smarter look.

Subtlety is key:

Don’t fall into the trap of asking outright for an upgrade, airline staff are constantly asked this question. Instead, ask for a seat closer to the front because of you “fear of flying”! The back of the plane tends to be more bumpy and the premium seats tend to be closer to the front of the plane!

Patience is a virtue:

Don’t rush to check in. Airlines will generally only upgrade if they are over subscribed for a flight and have run out of seats in Economy. Be aware that this plan could backfire and leave you sat a million miles apart from your travelling companion!

Love is in the air:

Casually mention to the check-in staff that you’re off on your honeymoon and they will do their best to upgrade you. They don’t normally need to see proof, it’s normally quite obvious! You will however be less likely to get upgraded on the popular honeymoon destinations such as the Maldives and Seychelles.

City Breaks

 City Breaks

Find great offers on City Breaks this autumn and winter.

City breaks during the winter season can be a fantastic surprise getaway for your wife or husband. With so many airlines promoting cheap flights now is the ideal time to start looking for a Winter City Break, perhaps as a Christmas present.

You’ll be amazed at how many towns and cities have Christmas Markets that are the ideal setting for that romantic getaway.  Whether it be flying to Prague, Dublin, Florence or Berlin on a cheap Easy jet flight or traveling to Paris on the Euro star, there are some bargain weekend breaks available.

Perhaps you don’t have the budget to fly? Then why not try staying closer to home and visit the town of Bath. With the winter chill it’s hard to resist the warm wine served on the market stalls. And the towns architecture is simply breath taking. It’s certain in my top 5 UK towns to visit.

    Long Flights

Tips to Make a Long Flight Pleasant

    • Get hydrated. Drink plenty of water the day before your travel so that your body is well hydrated for the trip. Avoid salty snacks and drinks that can cause dehydrations (like alcohol).

    • Get comfortable. Forget about looking good and go for complete comfort. If you absolutely have to dress up (because you are going straight to a meeting or are being followed by paparazzi) then choose clothing that does not wrinkle and shoes that offer a comfortable walk.

    • Get prepared. Pack some snacks and entertainment in your carry on bag. Have your mp3 player loaded with some great tunes or even some workshops that you can listen to during the flight. Put some of your favorite magazines or puzzle books in the bag. Pack a deck of cards and make friends with the people around you.

    • Get moving. Take some time about every hour to move around and get the blood flowing to your extremities. It will make the trip more comfortable and will also help reduce the possibility of continued problems in the future from the long train ride.

Planning for a long flight does not have to be difficult. It only takes drinking some water, packing right and staying comfortable to help make a long flight an enjoyable experience.
